Dance in the square: cueca classes

The massive cueca classes aim to contribute to the visibility and validation of this national dance as part of our heritage, recognizing its fundamental role in the construction of both individual and collective identity. Héctor Arapio and Bárbara León will be the teachers in charge of teaching the classes. Both have extensive experience in the cuequero field, aimed at dance and music.

Héctor Arapio, in addition to teaching classes throughout the year at “La Casa de la Cueca”, is a member of the cuequera band "Voy y Vuelvo". In the case of Bárbara León, she has danced on various stages in a folklore group and also together with María Esther Zamora and has been teaching for more than 10 years. Together they founded the “Chile Cuequero” project and created the “Chile Cuequero” YouTube channel, a space dedicated 100% to the national dance that was born in May 2017 with the aim of making known the feelings of the dancers, the places where Cueca is practiced, learned and, above all, lived. 

What will we learn?

• Basic steps: Walking, simple and crossed.
• Basic scarf: ways to move and flower it.
• Basic structure.
• Basic brushing and tapping.
• It will also delve into how to put attitude to those steps and ways of moving the handkerchief. The cueca has different forms of expression, with each person's own style being essential, but in this case ways of moving, flowering the handkerchief and flirting with the partner will be suggested.
