The Citizen Theater Laboratory 2026 is a space for meeting, exploration and scenic creation open to the community, which invites people of different ages and backgrounds, with and without experience in performing arts, to experience theater as a tool of expression, reflection and collective construction.
During the process, the participants will develop creative work and propose understanding theater as a space for dialogue with the present, where personal experiences and community stories are transformed into scenic material.
The laboratory will be directed by Andrés Saavedra Castro, an actor and theater director trained in Berty Tovías Theater Studies (Barcelona, Spain) and a psychologist from the University of Chile. He also has diplomas in Cultural Management (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile) and Educational Psychology (University of Chile).
Andrés Saavedra Castro
Actor, playwright, theater director and psychologist
He is director and playwright of the company Cuervos de Marsh (formerly Sopaipilla Teatro) and has created works such as Circo Peligro (2015), Cuervos de Marsh (2022), La Puerta del Maule (2024), Gabriela, the girl who dreamed of the stars (2024), Awakening of the Earth (2024) and The Movement of the Hummingbird (2025). His work has been recognized with an Honorable Mention from the Maule Regional Theater Award (2023).
He has developed projects supported by Fondart Nacional and has participated in interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Public Science program of the Ministry of Science together with the University of Chile; In addition, he has trained in object theater and doll animation with Claire Heggen (Théâtre du Mouvement, France) and the Chilean director Jaime Lorca.
