Call: The sound of pollinators

“The Sound of Pollinators" is a project that crosses art, science and citizen participation to bring us closer to the world of pollinating insects and urban biodiversity through planting, observation and co-creation experiences with communities. The project is an initiative of the Theater School and the Gema Center of the Universidad Mayor together with the GAM Center. Thanks to the Public Science program of the Ministry of Sciences, Technologies, Knowledge and Innovation, and directed by Paula Aros Gho, this project brings together artists, scientists, ecologists and specialists from different disciplines around a community and sensitive experience on urban ecosystems.

During five meetings open to the community, we will work on the life cycles of plants and insects: sowing, observing buds, recognizing flowers and discovering the arrival of pollinators. The workshops will combine scientific knowledge, practical garden activities and spaces for conversation and listening, wherethe experiences and memories of those who participate will be a fundamental part of the creative process.

The invitation is to form an intergenerational group—from 8 years old onwards—that can share different perspectives on nature, the city and the care of urban ecosystems. Those who join will be able to participate in the entire process, or just some of its stages, accompanying the growth of the plants throughout the months.

The workshops are part of a creative process that will later give rise to a sound and interactive installation in the green areas of the GAM. The final result will be dramatized sound capsules written by playwright Nona Fernández, inspired by scientific research on urban biodiversity and the testimonies collected during the workshops. In them, pollinating insects and native plants will take the floor to relate their links, ways of life and relationships with the city. These capsules will be activated with spectators and visitors during the month of October at the GAM.
