GAM, Gabriela Mistral Center, opens the next call for artistic projects in the field of performing, visual arts and music at the national level. For 2020, we will celebrate together 10 years of GAM in different formats and modalities.

The call seeks performing arts projects in the disciplines of theater, performance, contemporary and urban dance, interdisciplinary productions of performing arts, productions for family audiences and contemporary circus arts. It seeks premiere and rerun projects, and also opens a line to apply for festivals or markets.

In visual arts the disciplines of photography, design, architecture and contemporary art are promoted; Projects are sought to be exhibited in the Visual Arts Room and BiblioGAM. A new call for curatorial proposals is also being opened for a project that celebrates GAM's 10 years and which, in this case, will be financially supported by the cultural center.

The music call works with three modalities this year: Concerts for artists, which will be promoted by thematic cycles, concerts for new artists that may be nominated by record labels or music promoters or the use of a recording studio with emphasis on bands or soloists recording their first album, as well as in registration projects, recording of scenic heritage. Our call emphasizes genres other than classical music. The proposals selected in this way will be part of the 2020 artistic programming.

Objectives of the call

  • Select and disseminate projects by national creators, which demonstrate artistic quality premieres and/or re-releases, in order to configure a varied offer for our audiences.
  • Promote the linking of performing arts projects with audience training and territorial linkage strategies.
  • Expand creative and circulation crossings between Santiago and the regions of the country.
  • Diversify the offering in performing arts in the national context, generating an inclusive and pluralistic view of contents and formats.

In addition to this call, GAM generates other programmatic income which may consist of: direct invitations from the programming and audience management under the criteria that articulate management interests and/or specific content; own productions; GAM co-productions and management of national and international projects. The curatorial lines of these formats are defined internally and are carried out in a manner consistent with this call.

GAM does not have mandatory artistic lines for its programming. The themes and artistic styles for this application are free and must respond to the creative interests of national artists and/or creators. However, in order to articulate segments of programmatic work that act as references to social dialogue, special attention will be paid to those projects that, by 2020, are related to the following axes:

  • Memory, Heritage and Utopias: Themes that value aspects linked to the physical and symbolic history of GAM as a country agent. Thematic articulations are encouraged that enhance the aesthetic, architectural, political and symbolic narrative of our building from the construction of UNCTAD III to the present.

For 2020, the 30 years of the return of democracy in Chile will be reviewed, reflecting on the concept of democracy as a political idea of the country, the construction of utopias and questioning the current context of the model. We are interested in addressing the view of citizen participation as a critical social axis and the topics that may be touched on these realities.

  • Diversity+: Refers to social dissimilarities and the promotion of voices and artistic expressions for groups in need of being socially visible. For GAM, this proposes the articulation of themes with special emphasis on inclusive projects for people or artists with disabilities, migration issues, gender and indigenous peoples.
  • Contexts and citizenshipa: Within the framework of being a programmatic response to the different national and global citizen contexts, each year GAM will address this line with a theme linked to community development and its expressions.

For 2020 we will work on programmatic opening towards communities by addressing projects that work along the lines of artistic content as a driver of development.

We receive specific proposals from groups, NGOs, community organizations, municipal organizations, foundations, de facto groups or others that wish to be part of GAM as a content exhibition platform.

2020 will also question the notion of boundary geographies or citizen borders. Territories - local or global - are paradigms that are changing from different prisms. It will be observed how territories, migrations and the realities of the globe determine contexts and realities.

  • Special lines and anniversaries: GAM may propose relevant anniversaries on a national or international level as it has done previously with themes such as the year of Gabriela Mistral. For 2020, we articulate GAM 10 years as the only anniversary, in the context of the celebration of the 10 years of the Cultural Center and the history it has built as a space for the country in its social and artistic model.
