Tebas Land book presentation

The book was published by Documenta/Escénicas, Córdoba Argentina.  In his presentation, there will be Marco Antonio de la Parra; the author himself, Sergio Blanco, and the director of the work, Lucía de la Maza.

About the author, Sergio Blanco:

French-Uruguayan playwright and theater director, Sergio Blanco lived his childhood and adolescence in Montevideo and currently resides in Paris. After studying classical philology and theater direction at the Comédie Française, he has decided to dedicate himself entirely to writing and theater direction. Since 2008 he has been a member of the Management of the COMPLOT Contemporary Performing Arts Company. His plays have been distinguished on repeated occasions with several first prizes, including the National Playwriting Award of Uruguay, the Playwriting Award of the City of Montevideo, the National Theater Fund Award, the Florencio Award for Best Playwright, the Casa de las Américas International Award and the Theater Awards for Best Text in Greece.

In December 2017, he was nominated in London for the prestigious British Off West End Award for Best Author for the premiere of his piece Tebas Land in the English capital. His work entered the repertoire of the National Comedy of Uruguay in 2003 and 2007 with his pieces .45' and kyiv. Among its best-known titles are Slaughter; .45'; kyiv; Opus Sextum diptiko (vol. 1 and 2); Barbarism; Kassandra Darwin's Leap Thebes Land; Ostia, The Wrath of Narcissus, The Bellow of Düsseldorf and When You Pass Over My Grave.

Most of his texts, in addition to having been published and performed in their country of origin, have also been translated into different languages ​​and published in different countries. In recent years his theater has been premiered in France, Germany, England, Spain, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Luxembourg, United States, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico and Peru.

Parallel to his work as a playwright and director, Blanco carries out intense academic activity that has led him to give seminars, courses and conferences at different European and Latin American university and cultural institutions. In March 2013, he was appointed by the Carlos III University of Madrid, Artistic Director of the European project Crossing Stages, which brought together different universities and artistic institutions from different European countries for two years. That same year he was invited by the National Comedy of Uruguay to direct the First Seminar on National Dramaturgy and in 2014 the National Institute of Performing Arts of Uruguay entrusted him with the direction of a stage investigation that Blanco would carry out for a whole year with eight researchers and that would revolve around the theme of Autofiction: saying oneself on stage. Since March 2015, his text Ostia has been performed by himself along with his sister, the actress Roxana Blanco, in different countries and in that same year his text La ira de Narciso premiered under his direction and with the performance of the playwright, director and actor Gabriel Calderón.
