The contest, organized by Balmaceda Arte Joven, received more than 300 short films from all over Chile and 22 finalists were selected, 9 from the documentary genre, 8 from fiction and 5 from animation. The winners will be defined by a jury made up of Maite Alberdi, Gabriel Osorio and Marialy Rivas, and will be announced at the awards ceremony at GAM.
After an arduous process, the first national short film festival “Cortos en Grande” has already selected the finalist works that will compete during November 2016. In order to show these films to the public, the initiative organized by Balmaceda Arte Joven and Viart is preparing free exhibitions in the regions of Antofagasta, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, Biobío and Los Lagos.
This Friday, November 18, the contest awards will be held at GAM, where the three winning short films in the respective categories will be announced, selected by an outstanding jury composed of Maite Alberdi, Marialy Rivas and Gabriel Osorio. On the occasion, “Bear Story” will be presented, a film that won an Oscar for “Best Animated Short Film” in 2016.
The festival, which brought together more than 300 productions by young people between 14 and 30 years old, is a substantial x-ray of the issues that affect new generations, such as social injustice, parenthood, sexuality and gender, disability, the environment and indigenous peoples.
The programming includes 22 national short films in the categories of documentary, fiction and animation, which will be shown for 3 days, between November 5 and 19 at the regional headquarters of Balmaceda Arte Joven. The exhibition will also include the special exhibition “Great Chilean Directors” with the productions ¨La Ducha¨ (Berlín 2012) by Pepa San Martín, ¨Yo no soy de aqui¨ by Maite Alberdi (Visions du Réel, Switzerland, 2016) and ¨Blokes¨ by Marialy Rivas (Cannes 2004).
