The Talk "Art and Astronomy, an unexpected encounter" and the Preview of the series "Eclipse Hunters" are the two activities scheduled at GAM to celebrate Astronomy Day.
Two important activities will be carried out on the occasion of Astronomy Day in GAM thanks to the joint work with CONICYT and its Explora Program.
On Tuesday, March 20, the Talk “Art and Astronomy, an unexpected encounter" will be held by Ronald Mennickent (PhD in Physics UC and Director of the Department of Astronomy at the U. de Concepción, who works in research areas such as extra-galactic distance scale, evolution and stellar populations, variable and binary stars) and Silvana Zúñiga (artist known as Animä Hop who paints oil paintings inspired by astronomical images).
On Wednesday, March 21 the exclusive preview of the series “Eclipse Hunters” will be held. Made by Cábala Producciones, the episode is part of the second season of Hijos de las Estrellas, a series awarded by the National Television Council and shown on TV channels and Netflix.
In the new season, the team will travel to southern Argentina to accompany an eclipse hunter's race to achieve the best photograph of a solar eclipse. They also reported on the ruins of an ancient temple in Mexico, where its inhabitants would have made child sacrifices to keep the Sun alive after an eclipse. Finally, in the United States, they will capture the most viewed eclipse in the history of humanity.
