Darkness and an aesthetic typical of the prominent cartoonist Jacques Tardi reign in the film. It seems that there is no field or a bit of breathable air, technologies from the 19th century can be seen and it gives the impression that something is happening in the world, because science is not advancing.
The film is set in industrial Paris, in a place and time where obsolete technology reigns and where coal and steam are still used. Something strange is happening, because someone is taking away the scientists who are working, thus depriving humanity of technological advances. Its protagonist, April, and her cat Darwin, the one who speaks, go out in search of the young woman's scientific parents and along the way, they will have to decipher what is happening in this dark world.
