Patrick Bunster Centenary

Key figure in the formation of Dance in Chile, Patricio Bunster Briceño (1924-2006) was part of the first generation of choreographers who emerged under the wing of the Chilean National Ballet. He collected from his teachers Kurt Jooss, Ernst Uthoff and Sigurd Leeder the tools to refine his own language that would account for social memory and the dilemmas of South America during the sixties and seventies. He was a precursor of the so-called social dance, creator of works of recognition such as Calaucán (1959) and The empty chair (1968), which were staged together with the National Ballet. In his six decades of work, he dedicated himself to artistic activism, training dancers and choreographers, and founded the Spiral Dance Center.

To commemorate his figure and centenary (October 19), the National Union of Dance Artist Workers SINATTAD, together with the Metropolitan Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, are preparing a tribute function in which various companies, choreographers and dancers will participate, such as the Spiral Dance Company, Dance Company in Cross, Compañía Movimiento, Compañía Pies Danzantes, Compañía Tacto, among others.

The event will take place free of charge and has the support of the Subdirectorate of Culture of the First Municipality of Santiago, and GAM.
