Neighborhood Art Urban Festival

A great and free urban show will fill the center of Santiago with color from April 9 thanks to Barrio Arte, an alliance that seeks to unite the Lastarria/Parque Forestal perimeter with artistic activities organized by MAC, MNBA, GAM and MAVI.

On this occasion, there will be five murals by renowned Chilean and Latin American artists that will be created during a week and will also include an intense agenda of activities such as book launches, talks, music, dance and heritage routes to highlight the cultural content of the neighborhood and enhance the circuit.

The Barrio Arte Urban Festival will take off with the intervention of Chileans Inti Castro and Alejandro “Mono” González, painting large-format murals at the Bellas Artes Metro Station. In parallel, the Peruvian artist Jade Rivera will capture his creation on Merced Street #386 in 100 square meters. Another mural will be on Mosqueto Street #456, where Francisco Maturana will intervene in a residential building with his characteristic style of linking people with their memory and local stories. The fourth space, in charge of the Uruguayans Fitz (Florencia Duran) and T.H.E.I.C. (Camilo Núñez) of Colectivo Licuado, will be located on Coronel Santiago Bueras #142 street.

As this circuit was created with the aim of incorporating the population into the artistic world, the fifth work will be a participatory wall located along the GAM parking lot on Villavicencio Street by the local artist Stfi, which will activate citizen participation and which will be painted by all who want to be part of the 2018 Barrio Arte Urban Festival.

Book launch "Inti. Color, carnival and resistance!"
On Monday, April 9, the festival will open with the launch of the second book by world-famous Chilean muralist Inti Castro. The publication is a compilation of his work, carried out in the last 5 years, and includes images of 37 murals made in different countries in Europe, America, Africa and Asia. The ceremony will be attended by a renowned group of artists and directors from the MNBA, MAC, GAM and MAVI Museums.

Danceable Art Neighborhood
From the Bellas Artes Metro station, José Miguel Martín - Buitrago, better known as Dj Haiti and founder of the Mapocho Bailable movement, will tour different places in the sector with the best and most popular beats, surprising passersby and giving life to this cultural perimeter. Mariana Montenegro from the Denver group will participate as a special guest on the occasion.

Open Galleries Night
GAM and MAVI, in addition to the galleries Plop Galería, Ekho Gallery, Galería Ulises Lastarria, Espacio O + Casa O, Galería Cima, Galería Flach and Galería de Arte Posada del Corregidor, along with the Teatro Ictus, Centro de Arte Alameda, Teatro del Puente and Amphitheater Bellas Artes, will remain open until midnight with their cultural programming. In addition, visitors will be able to enjoy simultaneous exhibitions in both the circuit's stores, including: Colmado Coffee & Bar, Metales Pesados ​​Bookstore, La Tienda Nacional, Leerté, Psiquis Books, GAM Bookstore, Prologue Book, Ulises Lastarria Bookstore, El Cid Campeador and Qué Leo Forestal.

Guided tour Qhapaq Ñan - Atacama
Within the framework of the Barrio Arte Urban Festival, photographer Claudio Pérez will take a guided tour of the exhibition Qhapaq Ñan - Atacama during the Open Galleries Night.

Music in the neighborhood
The circuit will be filled with live music with the free presentation of the groups Fármacos and Prehistoricos at The Barber Club Vikingo (José Victorino Lastarria 202). For his part, the renowned actor Nicolás Oyarzún, will launch his alternative rock band Mercalí, at the GAM, upon registration at www.barrioarte.cl

Together with Cultura Mapocho, Barrio Arte invites the public to live an experience that fuses culture, heritage and art in public space, participating in two free thematic routes: Barrio Lastarria and Barrio Forestal. The Routes last 1 hour and a half with prior registration at www.barrioarte.cl

Trimex Collective
Multidisciplinary artists with a focus on the design and production of media arts, who will present Luminus Prospectu, a work that uses different lighting sources and speakers inside a container. The main idea is to introduce the visitor to the world of the stars in person.
April 9 to 15 - 12 to 22 hours, MAVI. Free on a first come, first served basis. 

Closing dance
The festival will end with a musical show by Colectivo Trimex and more than 100 dancers from Ecosistema, intervention by choreographer José Vidal. The group will dance simultaneously from the MAVI, MNBA and Cerro Santa Lucía, inviting the public to participate. The collective intervention will end on the MAC esplanade.

About Barrio Arte
The buildings that house the four partner centers of Barrio Arte are characterized by being urban and architectural landmarks that have given life and identity to the sector that surrounds them. This is how the Palace of Fine Arts, which houses the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC), was inaugurated in 1910 within the framework of the celebrations of the Centennial of the Republic and was located in the Forest Park, designed based on the canalization work of the Mapocho River.
The Museum of Visual Arts (MAVI) was installed in an old house with colonial reminiscences, located in Mulato Gil de Castro Square, which since the 1980s integrated cafes, bookstores and cultural spaces around it.
While the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM), has been located since 2010 to celebrate the bicentennial of Chile, in the building that was built in 1972 especially as the headquarters of the Third World Conference on Trade and Development of the United Nations, UNCTAD III.
