GAM pride! The co-production “Tierra”, made together with the National Dramatic Center of Spain, Marea, the National Directorate of Culture of Uruguay and the Buenos Aires Theater Complex, received the María Guerrero Award for Best International Show 2024, one of the most important awards on the Ibero-American scene.
This recognition, granted by the Association of Friends of the Cervantes National Theater since 1985, distinguishes the excellence of stage activity and positions GAM once again on the map of theater creation in the region.
An intimate and moving work
In “Tierra” the Franco-Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco continues his path in autofiction with a deeply personal piece: a tribute to his mother, Liliana Ayestarán, a literature professor who died in 2022.
On stage, three of Liliana's former students—Celia, Lucas and María Clara—reveal their stories filled with grief and loss, until they discover that, in addition to their common past, what unites them is that they are theatrical characters who must represent their lives in front of the audience. Thus, the work not only reflects on death and the transformation it leaves in those who remain, but also on the stage representation and the theater's own perspective.
GAM on the international scene
With this award, GAM reaffirms its role as a space for international creation and collaboration, working together with leading institutions from Uruguay, Argentina and Spain. The recognition of “Tierra” reflects the power of the artistic exchange that GAM promotes from Chile to the world, consolidating cultural bridges that enrich our local and international scene.
