The Minister of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Carolina Arredondo Marzán and the executive director(s) of the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center, María José Cifuentes, received this Saturday, January 25 at the GAM the American artist Patti Smith, together with the experimental sound art collective Soundwalk Collective made up of the artist Stephan Crasneanscki and the producer Simone Merli.
This meeting arises from the artists' musical tour as part of their next exhibition Correspondences (Correspondences) that will arrive in Chile in March 2025, an exhibition curated by Santiago Gardeazabal and organized by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage and GAM.
Minister Arredondo was the one who received the artist around noon in the visual arts room of the cultural center and they had time to talk and take a brief tour: "We made a technical visit to this room, where starting in March of this year the visual arts exhibition of the renowned artist Patti Smith will be exhibited free of charge to the public. This exhibition is an immersive experience that combines different techniques: audiovisual, poetry, music, to generate a reflection of the world and nature. Which fills us with pride and The invitation is that from March to May we will be able to visit this exhibition absolutely free for citizens.”

About Correspondences
Correspondences is an ever-evolving project between Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith. For more than 10 years, it covers a wide variety of geographies and their natural environments, where artists have discovered the sound footsteps left by poets, filmmakers, revolutionaries and the impact of climate change. It is an immersive exhibition that mixes audiovisual material, experimental music and poetry where the songs that result in said collaboration are made of sounds that reflect the relationship with the world, the environment and the soul of our existence.
Directed by Stephan Crasneanscki, it will be shown on eight screens and includes original footage from Pier Paolo Pasolini's 'I Tagli di Medea' starring Maria Callas, courtesy of Cinemazero; 'Pasolini' by Abel Ferrara starring Willem Dafoe; 'Andrei Rublev' by Andrei Tarkovsky and 'Andrei Tarkovsky. Additionally, in another space of the exhibition, illuminated tables will be located that reveal layers of works of art that reflect and document the creation process of each work, with original drawings, handwritten texts, photographs, scientific data and other studies.
Correspondences by Patti Smith and Soundwalk Collective opens March 13 at GAM and is free to view through May 26, 2025.
