In order to promote dialogue, reflection and critical thinking around cultural and artistic expressions, GAM and its Studies area call on the community of researchers to participate in the “Interdisciplinary research meeting on arts and cultural practices for social transformation”, a free, unprecedented event that focuses on how the production of knowledge nourishes the processes of social transformation.
The open instance seeks to promote conversation and the exchange of experiences based on the investigative work of agents linked to academic, institutional, cultural and territorial spaces. The idea is to make visible emerging problems, innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary views that contribute to the debate.
"This meeting is a space for thought and reflection based on research to give value to all those researchers, their practices, texts and reflections, where they address the investigation of artistic and cultural practices and how they are linked through social research. We are interested in these intersections between art and society, between politics and culture. The intention of cultural management, mediation, theory and practice, from the role of museums and cultural centers, is to establish these bridges that connect art, culture and society. We are interested in highlighting current contexts, emerging visions, how art affects public spaces, in academia, in social transformation, in well-being,” explains María José Cifuentes, director of programming at GAM.
The activity will have 30 exhibitors, who will meet in five panels, which will have several thematic axes, including situated cultural mediation, effective participation, music and corporalities, interculturality and art as a political exercise.
The meeting, which includes two days, Thursday, December 12 and Friday, December 13, will begin with the inaugural talk “Emergencies and horizons in the field of research into artistic and cultural practices,” led by Paulina Soto, Tomás Peters and Sebastián Muñoz, where, among other topics, the challenges of investigative work within the current Chilean and Latin American political and social context will be addressed. During the meeting there will also be the presentation of "Decentralized culture. Studies on cultural democracy in Chile and Latin America", a book by Carla Pinochet Cobos, anthropologist, researcher and academic at the Alberto Hurtado University.
It is a day of alliance and collaboration for all those who are interested in participating (registrations).
“Interdisciplinary research meeting on arts and cultural practices for social transformation” is organized by GAM and has as collaborating entities the Nucleus of Sociology of Art and Cultural Practices of the University of Chile, the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Alberto Hurtado University and the Millennium Nucleus in Musical and Sound Cultures (CMUS).
