The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage (MINCAP) reported on the start of the public bidding process for the construction of the Second Stage of the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM), with an investment of 72 billion pesos.
Companies that qualified in the Special Registry of Contractors can present their technical and economic proposals for the project that seeks to conclude the works that have been abandoned since 2018 and are 45% complete.
The Minister of Public Works, Jessica López, highlighted that "we are facing one of the most relevant cultural projects in the country, which will mean having a new space and revitalizing, along with other projects that we are developing in Alameda and Plaza Italia, a very symbolic space of the city for its inhabitants, for tourism, for commerce and artistic production. This was a commitment of President Boric that we are carrying out."

It is worth remembering that between the months of August and October the special registration was carried out, during which five companies were pre-selected that will now be able to advance in the public bidding stage.
According to the tender calendar, the deadline for companies to make their queries is extended until January 20, 2025, which can be answered within a period of two weeks. Then, on February 19, the reception of technical and economic offers will close, with the opening of the latter on March 6. If the stipulated deadlines are met, the award is estimated for July of next year.
The Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM) is the largest work in terms of cultural infrastructure at the national level, with an approximate surface area of almost 16 thousand m2, distributed over 6 levels and 4 underground. The new construction stage, which will provide the space with almost 16 thousand additional square meters, will allow the venue to have a total area of 38 thousand square meters.
The project also contemplates improvements in the original design such as: greater versatility of the stage, by incorporating more lifting platforms, being 100% mobile; modification of the seat transfer and storage system, improving changeover times between different types of shows; incorporation of a stage design project into the rehearsal room, giving it more scenic features; greater incorporation of LED technology into the lighting project and improvement of the air conditioning project, providing better performance for the benefit of thermal comfort and contributing to the parameters required in the acoustic project.
