Alfredo Castro was awarded Clap Acclamation! for Best Actor for “Los arrepentidos”, a GAM co-production directed by Víctor Carrasco, released in 2018 and currently in theaters until March 31 in the best of the year cycle. Likewise, the montage won the Ovation Clap! award. for the Best Theater Work.
The Best Contemporary Dance Production, Danza Clap! Award, went to “Malen”, by Ricardo Curaqueo, which rescues the worldview of the Mapuche woman and which had already been recognized by the Art Critics Circle as the best work of 2017. brothers Gopal and Visnu Ibarra Roa together with the citizen choir, on the figure of Violeta Parra.
"Four important awards that reflect the successful programmatic bets that we are premiering in our theaters. We are very happy for the artists who have managed to excite viewers, for the risky themes of the productions and for the response of the public that has recognized them as favorites," commented Felipe Mella, executive director of GAM.
The nominees for the thirteen categories were designated by experts in the area, such as critics Alejandra Costamagna, Ana Josefa Silva, Andrea Jeftanovic, Guillermo Gallardo, Jacques de la Brioche, Jorge Letelier, Leopoldo Pulgar and Marietta Santi. Meanwhile, the winners were chosen by popular vote.
The awards, organized by the Atrápalo platform and broadcast by La Red, recognized other artists who enjoyed recognition from the public and specialized critics during 2018. Natalia Belova and Teresita Iacobelli were awarded as Best Direction for “Chaika”, Claudia Cabezas as Best Actress for “Arpeggione” and Roberto Cayuqueo as Best Dramaturgy for “The people call you: Nahuelpán, Presidente”.
