After a successful performance of Amores de cantina in the Plaza Sotomayor in Valparaíso and of Radiotanda-GAM at the Iquique International Theater and Dance Festival FINTDAZ 2017, two GAM productions arrive at the Municipal Theater of Temuco: La Viuda de Apablaza (June 2) and Xuárez (June 23). For its part, La noche obstinada will travel to the port city to perform on Saturday, July 8 at the Valparaíso Cultural Park.
Also in June, the Citizen Choirs project will travel to regions with a cycle that commemorates the 100 years of the birth of Violeta Parra. On Saturday, June 3, it will be presented at the Regional Theater of Rancagua and on Tuesday, June 13 at the Palace Cultural Center in Coquimbo.
August is children's month and that is why GAM will bring two family theater plays to the regions: Luciérnagas which will have performances in different places in the IV Region and The heart of the selfish giant which will be presented at the Maule Regional Theater. In addition, World Voice will travel to Valdivia this second semester to implement the British Council's educational program that motivates boys and girls to learn through singing.
In April, two renowned theater and dance works traveled from Concepción to perform on the GAM stages. In theater came The Bird of Chile, a work with actors, dancers and musicians that brings to life the story of a Chilean family mired in poverty and that recalls the décimas and music of Violeta Parra. The production was written by Leyla Selman, directed by Rodrigo Pérez and premiered in 2013. In dance Cuerpo fronterizo presented immigration and racism through contemporary dance in a work by the Spanish dancer Chevi Muraday that the collective Escénica en Movimiento created to expose what happens to those who leave their country.
In addition, in March, important circulation activities were carried out with the city of Lebu through a replica of its 2017 International Film Festival, in which the winning fiction and animation documentaries and short films were exhibited at GAM. Among them, the participation of the winning children in the category of short films in stop motion techniques stood out, with themes linked to identity, territory and environmental protection.
This is in addition to many other alliances recently signed with cultural institutions that will promote joint theatrical tours and productions. Teatro Popular Ictus, Teatro UC and Teatro Municipal de Chillán are already part of these new collaborative relationships. GAM also signed an agreement for the creation of the First Theater Stage Network of Chile, together with the Municipal Theaters of Santiago, Municipal de Las Condes, Municipal de Temuco, Fundación Cultural de Providencia, Fundación CorpArtes and Ceac Universidad de Chile.
Inclusion
Hapto, see and feel, is the name of GAM's inclusive project that was for the first time in the south of the country: Concepción, Valdivia and Puerto Montt. GAM took this successful program to regions, where visually impaired people guided blindfolded people for an inclusive, sensory and artistic experience. In alliance with the San Sebastián University, GAM carried out Hapto tours at the Tres Pascualas Campus in Concepción (April 26 and 27), at the Valdivia Campus (May 8 and 9) and at the Pichi Pelluco Campus in Puerto Montt (May 10 and 11).
International conventions
Latin America will be the first objective of the GAM Circulation Program. That is why in March a framework agreement was signed with the National Theater Institute of the Republic of Argentina in which both parties committed to organizing joint activities and developing theatrical plans, programs and projects that benefit the performing arts on both sides of the mountain range.
