Together with representatives of urban rhythms, such as hip hop, voguing and K-pop, GAM launched its 2020 artistic programming this Monday, January 27, which will include from March 52 plays, 11 dance works, visual arts exhibitions, festivals, audience training programs and dozens of popular and classical music concerts.
The 2020 programming will cover the 10 years of GAM, but will also take the social context of #ChileDespertó: "Although we have always included in our programming topics of inclusion, gender, indigenous peoples and diversity, since October 18 we have reflected as a team on what our role is as a cultural center. This movement has moved us all and we believe that as an institution we must observe, listen and contribute to being a more empathetic, fair and diverse society. We are rewriting history and promoting spaces for conversation, containment and inspiration,” commented the executive director, Felipe Mella.
Thus, the “Alameda Abierta” program emerged with conversations, concerts in squares, collective dances and town hall meetings. On the other hand, free and discounted performances were held, works were rescheduled and new schedules were applied to the billboard to facilitate public circulation. The façade of the building, for its part, went from having the #ManifiestoGAM in August 2019, a communication campaign with photos of the feminist movement with messages that cited works by GAM, to being a wall of citizen artistic expression.
"During 2020, our programs will focus on bridging social and territorial access gaps by disseminating art in different formats: books, audience programs, launching the digital archive and strengthening the circulation of works by region," explains Felipe Mella, and adds: "In September we will celebrate ten years with important figures. Since 2010, 11 million visits to the building have been registered, more than 500 works of performing arts have been presented in theaters and They have registered 7,656 theater, dance and circus performances. More than 1,200 of them have been free. In addition, room occupancy has progressively grown from 59% to 71%. Since 2016, we also set ourselves the challenge of showing GAM's work outside of Santiago. In this circulation program, more than 160 performances were held in 35 communities from Arica to Punta Arenas and with more than 50 thousand. viewers”, complementsMella.
