Europe Day is a celebration that takes place every May 9, and to begin celebrating it, GAM together with the European Union, make a strategic alliance with a series of workshops and digital tutorials in performing arts for the whole family.
There will be eight companies with a track record such as Teatro de Ocasión, Los Fi, Tryo Teatro Banda, Manada, La Key Master, Aranwa, Cirkoqoshka and Elvira López, who will carry out recreational and educational activities for early childhood, children and adolescents to reach out to different audiences in times of confinement in homes.
The family will be able to enjoy live music, games, mask making, shadow theater and circus skills in educational audiovisual capsules that will be available free of charge on GAM's digital platforms.
This initiative celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Declaration by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, which took the first step towards European integration in 1950, highlighting the value of solidarity between peoples.
Today the European Union and its 27 member countries share 24 official languages and have, among other objectives, to promote peace, fundamental values such as peace and human rights and the well-being of their citizens, in addition to combating social exclusion and discrimination.
The Ambassador of the European Union in Chile, Stella Zervoudaki, stated that, "culture is a priority characteristic of our diversity, it makes us prosper and reinvent ourselves. In these difficult times, the European Union supports the artistic sector, because culture is a key issue for our cooperation with Chile. The EU and Chile form an indissoluble alliance for an inclusive and sustainable future."
The proposal incorporates groups and companies that have been part of GAM's programming, and that will work on innovative digital formats for the public.
"GAM generates performing arts content in various formats to overcome access barriers and democratize culture. In these times of pandemic we are doing it with more force and we have looked for alternatives for specialized content, without leaving aside our main collaborators: the artists. We are very grateful to the European Union that supports the cultural sector with a view of solidarity and commitment to artists," says the executive director of GAM, Felipe Mella.
Family artistic experiences GAM- European Union
The Manada Company (Fireflies) invites the whole family to learn a little about the mythical Whale 52, a unique mammal in the world, which has a particular song and that no one has ever seen. Together with three dancers and their director, Francisco Medina, the company will make the participants dance alongside them as if they were in the depths of the ocean.
The Aranwa Company workshop (Melodies in the Air) will teach how to create a character from body play. Creative play at home will be enhanced with what is available. Directed by Layla Raña, participants will discover the possibilities of our body through various movements.
Actress and singer Elvira López (Happy End, Pink Milk) will teach how to create a miniature theater. Those interested will learn how to choose the story, create a script, make a storyboard, the setting, the characters and the soundscape.
The Los Fi Company (Goodbye electronic scrap) will hold a workshop to explore basic music concepts with reusable objects. To learn about pulse, rhythm and timbres, these specialists in urban and choreographic percussion with objects will work for young people from 8 to 16 years old with glasses, bottles and spoons and thus achieve rhythmic body games.
La Key Master, a Visual and Object Theater company, accustomed to creating poetic and playful shows, will present a capsule to take the family on a journey to imaginary universes. On this occasion, they will teach how to create paper dolls to start playing. Children and parents will be able to gather around creativity and ingenuity, transforming a piece of paper into a beautiful doll full of life that can be manipulated by one or two people.
Circus tricks, music and magic is what the company Cirkoqoshka (Ursaris) will bring, which will make various characters available for the development of educational content. “Quarantine with my Bear” is the name of the workshop, which will present musical instruments from the East, coordination and physical agility games, acrobatics, balance as a couple, and how to create masks. Plus, they'll explain how being ridiculous is a lot of fun.
The public from 12 to 18 years old will be able to be entertained and learn with the dynamics of Tryo Teatro Banda (Tragicomedia del Ande) will invite experts in telling episodes of the history of Chile with acting, music, literature and plastic arts. The “minstrelsque capsule in times of quarantine” will include the story of Governor Martín García Óñez de Loyola, who in 1598 ended the Inca dynasty. Francisco Sánchez, with his musical instruments, will tell how this Spanish gentleman later had to face the resistance of the Mapuche people.
For children from 5 to 10 years old, the Teatro de Ocasión company (Lucila, Gabriela's lights) will invite the members of the house to play with everyday objects, to produce sound universes and create a story. Using plastic with water, beans, plates, wood, pots and different elements that exist in homes, participants will discover how sounds can put together entertaining and magical stories.
