GAM will close September with the traditional Chilean festival of 18 Chico, which will include, for the last weekend of the month, entertaining performances for families, the best of Chilean popular music in five environments and all with free entry.
In conjunction with Seguros SURA, the cultural center thus extends the National Holidays on 28 and 29 September to fill them with cultural shows for all audiences with a large stage, dance floor and four other areas dedicated to gastronomy, spaces for children, cueca classes, entrepreneurs' market and various workshops.
JuanaFé, Nico Poblete and Lucho Castillo, NINA la que Shine and La pérgola de las flores, will be part of the guest artists who will take the stage to perform their songs and tunes live, along with other greats from the national popular scene, all animated by actress Carmen Gloria Bresky.
"On this emblematic date, we invite all citizens to share, celebrate and meet with great Chilean artists. This year our focus will be on giving space to the 'cuecódromo' with three notable groups and at the same time closing both days with tropical Latin music. It will be two days to have an incredible time, with recreational activities, delicious food and panoramas for all tastes and ages," comments María José Cifuentes, director of GAM programming.

In addition to the artistic programming, this 18 Chico will be a full-day panorama. Chile Cuequero will teach massive cueca classes for everyone who needs to refresh their knowledge or learn from scratch. There will be storytelling, Chilean games, workshops of wicker, kite and gastronomic heritage; The toy library will be active to play with the little ones, food carts with sandwiches, empanadas, ice creams, Arabic and vegan food and a large selection of hamburgers; a market with local enterprises supported by Empresas SURA with toys, gardens, crafts, among others.
PROGRAMMING
The successful GAM Production of La pérgola de las flores will arrive at the central plaza in a special performance that will review its songs live and with its protagonists. As Carmela there will be the actress Francisca Walker and there will be no shortage of pergoleras, her lover Tomasito and the most endearing characters who made this play, directed by Héctor Noguera, one of the audience's favorites. On this occasion, attendees will also be able to sing the songs as karaoke.
The tropical will be present thanks to JuanaFé, a musical band that mixes popular Latin American rhythms such as salsa and cumbia with Jamaican ska and rumba. The group, representative of the new Chilean cumbia or Chilean afrorumba, has been recognized on the most important stages in the country, such as the Huaso de Olmué and the Canción de Viña del Mar festivals. With their “Lleve de lo bien” and their six studio albums, the band is loved for its themes that point to neighborhood life.
The duo made up of the actor Nico Poblete and the musician Lucho Castillo, will arrive with all the folklore to revive part of our identity on stage with their cuecas. The group seeks to show its new creations but also to play again those classics that are hidden within the cueca brava.
The future of Chilean tropical music and cumbia pop will also be presented: NINA la que Shine. Despite her short career, her songs are already being played on different radio stations in the country and the artist has almost 30 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify. One of his hits that has caused the most talk on digital platforms is "Bandido", which has accumulated more than a million views on YouTube, as well as "Besos", a duet with Daniel Guerrero (vocalist of La Sociedad).
The cueca will be resumed with Las Capitalinas, a female group that has 23 years of experience. With their particular fusion sound, which unites cueca with rock, pop, blues, swing, fox-trot and boleros, the performers will review their five albums dedicated to the Chilean party.
Folklore will continue with the help of Voy y Vuelvo, a group currently made up of four musicians, which has brought the urban cueca to a prominent place. With more than 14 years of experience, they have spread their work in different settings in Santiago's bohemia.
For the little ones, there will be the sensation of Guaypes Club (nominated for the 2021 Pulsar Awards), a fun and educational trap and reggaeton band performed by ondera puppets. Mr. Guay-P, Traperita and Mopita will deliver their songs and adventures to the rhythm of instruments of folkloric origin.
Finally, the energy and passion of tinku, a folk dance from the highlands with the Tinkus San Simón Santiago Branch Folkloric and Cultural Fraternity, will arrive. The group is recognized for the quality in the representation of this ancestral dance and has been participating in multiple festivals, carnivals and religious celebrations for more than 10 years.
