“Modern Mazurquia” and “On the day of your birthday” were the songs performed by more than 230 students from eight educational establishments in the communes of Puente Alto, Lo Prado, La Florida, Peñalolén and Santiago, who took over the public space, within the framework of the celebration of Artistic Education Week 2017.
The protagonists of this unique moment that took place in one of the hallways on the -1 floor of Metro Station Universidad de Chile, with the intervention called “Choirs for Violeta”, are part of Voces GAM, a choir made up of teachers from the region, along with their basic and secondary education students. In the program, teachers from different areas receive singing, repertoire and vocal coaching classes annually and then apply the knowledge in their classrooms. In addition, teachers are trained in body expression with professional theater companies, in order to integrate various areas of the arts in group singing.
"We are working with innovative methodologies for the classroom in this program, which has the invaluable support of the British Council. We explore the vocal potential of teachers, the possibilities of group singing with different repertoires and, above all, the relationship of singing with education and with the performing arts. And what better way to give citizens part of this work with children and the great Violeta Parra," said Pamela López of the GAM Cultural Center at the end of the intervention.
