This second stage will allow the surface of the GAM to be increased by 15 thousand square meters to reach a total of 37 thousand square meters. The entire project, including the previous works that are in the bidding process, will involve an investment of 34 billion pesos financed by the Ministry of Public Works.
The Minister of Culture, Claudia Barattini, highlighted that the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center has been transformed into a meeting place between creators and the public: "The challenge we face is to consolidate that relationship and enable more spaces for the performing and musical arts, which we will achieve with the construction of this Great Hall, which will have the highest technical standards to accommodate high-quality shows. As the Culture Council we are proud to be able to take a new step in the completion of this significant project and expected by the cultural scene of our country.”
The Minister of Public Works, Alberto Undurraga, highlighted the relevance of this project that is being launched: "The State, society and cities require and demand emblems in their development. Our role is to restore and also build emblems, such as the second stage of the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center in Santiago, which according to the established deadlines, we hope to begin works during the last quarter of 2015, to be able to deliver during this Government an important space for cultural development for citizens."
