Dance Day Celebration | Dances all year round

“Dance can be a form of optimism that leads to seeing, even in the most disastrous things, a glimpse that everything can be looked at differently.”

— Patricio Bunster, Chilean choreographer and dancer.

GAM lives the dances from January to December and especially in April, the month of the discipline par excellence. Movements from halls and public spaces become democratic every time people dance to their own rhythm. This year, we celebrate International Dance Day with artistic programming, a marathon for everyone, awards for the sector and free classes.

“"This year we celebrate the day of dance, because we want to reclaim different manifestations and expressions that arise from this art. Modern, contemporary and classical dances, but also urban, original, popular. And of course the enjoyment of dance. We want to expand the view of dance beyond the established margins. In addition, dance is very democratic in its form, because it reaches all bodies, all people can dance. Dance is part of our cultural rights."”

— María José Cifuentes, director of GAM Programming.

The reality of dance in Chile

During 2023, our Studies team carried out a consultation with the Dance sector, to gather information, make the discipline visible as a work activity, considering its sociodemographic characterization, membership groups, training levels, work characterization, associated problems and difficulties.

In total, 174 responses were received and displayed during the Dance Marathon, which brought together 300 people. Find out the results in this report.
