Japan Stamps Exhibition

This is the private collection of Walter Guzmán that presents first issues of stamps from 1871 to 1960.

There will be more than 900 stamps, displayed in glass frames, which will be available to the public in the BiblioGAM hall.  Among the themes that stand out are the New Year designs related to the Chinese horoscope and the display of women in Japanese philately.  There will be paintings by famous painters from Japan, portraits of Japanese traditions, Geishas and Samurai, and much more.

There will also be a tribute to the author Basho Matsuo, cultivator of "Haiku" poetry, poetry in a few lines, highlighting the Japanese value of art and culture.

Walter Guzmán Walters, Philatelic and Numismatic, belonging to the Círculo Filatelico de Concepción, began this collection around the 1950s. Guzmán worked on his collection sporadically until the 1970s. In 1990 he gave his collection to his daughter, Etna, who kept this collection stored for about 25 years.  Now it comes to light to show how Japan keeps its most ancient traditions alive, through its philately.

In August, the discussion "Women in Chilean Philately" will also be held.  It will be Etna Guzman herself, who will talk with the public about her foray into this art and how she has managed to amass a collection of stamps based on Japanese culture.
