New Year

In this work every day is New Year's Day. Because the story of Miguel and Isabel is presented exclusively through the December 31 and January 1 that they have spent together. Before, during and after the hug. From when they are twenty-somethings who just met and fell in love until they are a very old couple waiting for news from Ana, the daughter they haven't seen in years.

New Year is a black comedy about love and old age. A journey with music, dancing, party favors, drinks and dirty dishes that travels fragmentarily from the 60s to the present. A portrait of the grudges, secrets, desires and fears of a couple that survives the passage of time, although the conflicts that arise between celebrations and hangovers complicate their lives.

The production is a collective creation and direction of three former university classmates: the actress and director Paulina García, the scriptwriter and actor Rodrigo Gijón; and the actor and director, former La Troppa, Jaime Lorca. The trio worked for more than a year on this project, which is being released by the company Viajeinmóvil, known for works such as Gulliver, Chef and Othello, all of which are theater of objects. New Year is no exception.

The work investigates with humor the way in which age changes life. The way in which time changes people, their problems, their health, their finances, their relationships, and ultimately also the house, the society and the country they live in. "Humor is vital because it allows us to endure the tragedy of aging. It is a tragedy full of humor. But it is more of a long love story than an essay on old age," says Lorca.
